Rotary is an international service organistaion organised into local districts.

We are one of the 78 clubs in District 1040, which covers large parts of North and West Yorkshire.

We are a relatively new club of both male and female members who have become friends through working together on the many projects we have undertaken in the last few years.

Some examples of what we have done locally.

We provide support for the Salvation Army, the Motor Neurone Disease Association, a mother and toddler group, Hearing Dogs for the deaf and our local  Empty Chair Bereavement group.

Whitby Endeavor Rotary brought Santa and his elves to Whitby, Hinderwell and Staithes.

Lots of local children had a chance to speak to Santa and promise to be good!

Goathland Fair

We have been fund raising for the Great North Air Ambulance for a couple of years. We organised a Country Fair in Goathland featuring local crafts and food, and many other local activities including rides on a small traction engine, birds of prey demonstration and refreshments.

A funday enjoyed by young and old and raising over £1000 for Rotary causes.

Macmillan Walk

One of our members sadly died of Breast Cancer and last year our efforts were largely in aid of Macmillan, the cancer support charity. Ruth, one of our members organised a 10 mile sponsored walk from Sleights to Goathland through some of our best local scenery, to end at the Inn on the Moor, where the weary walkers finished off with welcome refreshment.

John, president, and Ruth present the cheque.

Scout Hut Project

In the summer of 2011 our local scout group contacted us to see if we could help, in a practical way, with the re-furishment of Sleights Scout Hut. They had received some grant aid but the money could go much further with volunteer labour!
